Spring Line 2008

On April 12, 2008 Chi Gamma Gamma and the undergraduate chapter at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Delta Kappa) welcomed 22 new brothers into the fold of Omega. The Membership Selection Process (MSP) and the subsequent initiation was a collaborative effort from several of the brothers in the chapter and the then Neophytes at Tech. Eight brothers brought into Chi Gamma Gamma were students at Kennesaw State University (KSU) and will form the charter line at KSU.

The Spring Line 08 was the largest in the history of Chi Gamma Gamma. With this new line, for the first time in the 20 year history of the chapter, Chi Gamma Gamma now has over 100 financial members.

The candidates for membership participated in a record number of community service projects as well. They aided students in Douglas County on a weekly basis as they prepared for the state required comprehensive exam. They counseled participants from the Hartmann Adolescent Treatment Facility, and worked with In the Meantime Ministries to feed the hungry in Cobb County. They also cleaned up on Cobb Parkway working with the Adopt-A-Highway program in Cobb County. In addition to joining the chapter brothers at worship services at three area churches, the candidates also assisted with the chapter-sponsored Science Bowl held at Kennesaw State.

Brother H. Benjamin Williams chaired the overall process and was assisted by Brother Ken Dollar, Brother David Jones, Brother Dwayne Willis and Brother Randolph Merriweather. Brothers David Long, Anthony Threatts and Mike Reed aided Brother Dollar in hosting the brothers on the campus of Georgia Tech for the weekly educational review sessions.

On April 19 on the campus of Morris Brown College the new brothers along with their families and friends were treated to a private welcome reception at Murrell’s Restaurant (owned by Brother Mike Murrell).

The final piece in the process has started with the formal post-initiation education phase. The new brothers have started now to realize that the informal phase will last a lifetime.
