Relay for Life is a life changing event that celebrates the lives of individuals who have battled cancer, remember the loved ones lost, and raise money to continue the fight against this horrible disease. This will mark the 9th year that our chapter has participated in this

Cobb Countyevent.  Originally invited by our sisters in the Marietta-Roswell Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Chapter, we responded to their observation that there were "no black male fraternities participating in the event". We are about 30 days away, but you still have time to get involved.

Over the first eight years we have raised close to $90,000.  Our captains are in place.  We need other Omegas to help make this another stellar year. Your willingness to get involved in some capacity would be greatly appreciated.  We will once again have a large campsite set up for members of our chapter and our Delta sisters. Last year’s event brought out over 100 Ques and Deltas who ate grilled burgers, hot dogs, chicken and sausages to go along with lots of side dishes.  The event will bring out over 5,000 people, but only a select few teams, including the Omegas and Deltas, will actually camp out all night!  In addition to a worthy fund-raising cause, Relay for Life is always a place to just have some fun.   It is a family-friendly event, so bring out the family.  As a reminder, no alcoholic beverages or smoking is allowed at the event.

We have signed up both individual Omegas and XGG Lines to join the 2012

TEAMOmega Psi Phi Fraternity fund raising this year!!  Here are the subcommittees and their respective current needs:

1)  Fundraising (Chaired by Brother Charles McCord) - We already have about ten brothers/Lines who have said that they will do fund raising.  We can have upwards of 20 people on our team.  We are asking all Team Omega Psi Phi fundraisers to raise a minimum of $200 each but we will always accept more. While we plan to solicit our family, friends and co-workers, chapter brothers are encouraged to write personal checks, made out to the American Cancer Society, and bring them to the April.  If you cannot make it out to the meeting, give it to one of the team captains or another team member.

DO YOU WANT TO DONATE ONLINE – clink on this link http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?pg=team&fr_id=39651&team_id=1143870

2) Pre-event Planning (Chaired by Brother Keith Woods) – This subcommittee will be responsible for securing and setting up our rental tent.  He also handles the team registration process and coordinating the camp site selection

3) Event-day planning (Chaired by Brother Albert Lindsey) – This subcommittee will be responsible for securing the food and supplies needed for the event.  Close coordination with the Deltas is needed since we traditionally ‘split’ our cost and supply list.  We also will need individuals to help with the site decorations and working out the details needed to get enough chairs, tables and games to the event.

4) Luminary Preparation (Chaired by Brother Charles McCord) – As we received donations, commitments will be made to prepare a Luminary (tribute) bag to recognize someone special for each donor.  They may include a person who has either passed away from cancer or survived cancer.  Each year we have over 100 bags to prepare and personalize.  Most of the bag personalization will need to happen before the event. We will also need people to come out on Friday the 11th and prepare the bags for displaying during Relay (we add Relay-provided sand and a candle to each bag).

For any general Relay for Life questions, please contact Brother McCord.  Contact the respective subcommittee chairman if you know the area you have special interest in joining  We will also have a sign-up sheet at the April chapter meeting.  If you signed up at the March chapter meeting, there is no need to sign up again.
